Turning Left

Tap keypad 4 twice to begin a left turn. Then follow these steps:

  1. Before the turn becomes too steep, press keypad 5 to stop the roll. The bank should be just steep enough so that the left wing depicted on the turn coordinator (the bottom left instrument) is aligned with the L mark. This causes the airplane to turn left at a rate of three degrees per second.
  2. Note how the airplane continues to turn even after the roll is stopped. In order to stop the turn, opposite aileron is required. Press keypad 6 to roll to the right, and then press keypad 5 just as the wings level.
  3. Continue making shallow turns left or right until the airplane is headed approximately 300 degrees, which is depicted on the heading indicator (just to the right of the turn coordinator) as 30. You want to head the airplane to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
